WALTER PIROVANO

From October 2009 Walter Pirovano works as Product Specialist Bioinformatics in the genome analysis section of BaseClear. His main focus is the management and analysis of next-generation sequencing data. Our core mission is to provide high quality standardized bioinformatics solutions to our customers. To accomplish this goal, BaseClear seeks continuously to update and broaden its next-gen analysis services. As the field moves very fast, we feel it is absolutely necessary to keep up with the latest in order to deliver the best possible solution to our customers. |

Walter is responsible for the bioinformatics analysis at BaseClear and supervises a small team of excellent bioinformaticians with expertise in the field of next-gen analysis and (far) beyond. The team also produces in-house software, some of which is shared with the community and posted on our BaseTools section. Last but not least, Walter coordinates part of the IT-infrastructure, among which the development of BaseClear’s LIMS system.
Walter attended the University of Milan to study biology and specialized in molecular biology. After obtaining his Master's degree he moved to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to start a PhD research in the group of Prof. Jaap Heringa. Under his supervision Walter performed studies in the field of biological sequence analysis for four years.
In his sparetime he enjoys playing piano in a Dutch pop/rock band.
