Derek Butler
Derek is responsible for the Genome analysis services, which are based on next generation sequencing technology. Together with Erwin van Rijn he also handles the Gene to Protein services. In addition to this, he works on a number of collaborative research projects with universities and research institutes the objective of which is to develop novel and more efficient DNA-related services.

Protein-DNA interaction analysis (chIP-seq) service
If you are studying in protein-DNA interactions, our ChIP-seq service may be of interest. ChIP-Seq combines chromatin-immunoprecipitation with Next-Gen sequencing technology to identify and quantify in vivo protein-DNA interaction on a genome-wide scale.
Approach
Our product specialist works out how many runs have to be performed, which samples are needed and how the data should be analysed. This is done in close collaboration with the customer.
Starting material
DNA that has already gone through the ChIP process and a reference sequence, provided by the customer.
Sequencing
Single read sequencing with the Illumina GAII
Bioinformatics
- Supply of the raw sequencing data (fasta or scarf)
- Optional: Downstream options on a custom basis.
The bioinformatics strategy will be determined in close collaboration between the customer, our bioinformatics specialist and product specialist Genome Analysis.
