Erwin van Rijn

Together with Derek Butler, Erwin is responsible for BaseClear's Gene to Protein services. He focuses mainly on gene synthesis, synthetic library construction, and cloning and primer synthesis. Erwin manages the team of technicians who carry out the laboratory work and solve any problems that might arise. In addition to this, he maintains the contacts with customers about these services.

Primer synthesis service

  

The efficiency of a primer depends on many factors, such as the melting temperature, the GC-content and the occurrence of hairpin loops, (cross)-dimers and false priming. BaseClear is able to design oligonucleotides in which disturbing factors are avoided and the melting temperature and GC-content are adjusted to the wishes of the customer. In addition to this, we now offer a new service, in collaboration with Ella Biotech, for the synthesis of labelled primers.

Provide us with your target sequence and the range in which the primer(s) should be designed, and we will provide you with the optimal primer design and synthesis. All oligonucleotides will be delivered as freeze-dried product. As extra service for oligonucleotides larger than 30-40mer, we offer the option of purifying them by HPLC.

Synthesis of labelled primers

In addition to our in-house primer synthesis service, we now offer a service for the synthesis of labelled oligonucleotides in collaboration with Ella Biotech (Germany). Ella Biotech is able to synthesise high demand primers, such as oligonucleotides carrying one or more special labels, according customer specifications.

Customers can choose oligonucleotides with 5'- or 3'-modifications, such as Fam, Hex, Tet, Biotin, Tamra, Phos, C6-Amino, Thiol-C6, Rox, Joe or Texas-Red. Dual labelling with fluorogenic probes is also possible. Primers can be purified by PAGE or HPLC.
