Dr. Hans de Nobel
Managing Director
IFF
Hans de Nobel studied Biology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and received his PhD in 1991. After six years of fundamental research at the University of Vermont (USA), Hans returned to Amsterdam to apply his expertise at the UvA in close collaboration with Unilever. In 2000 Hans switched from academia to join Genencor International BV in Leiden which was acquired sequentially by Danisco, DuPont/DOW and eventually IFF. Currently Hans is as Chief Scientist responsible for the product innovation pipeline for the industrial application of enzymes, microbes and polysaccharides. His team of over 200 scientists in the USA, Denmark, China and the Netherlands develops new products that significantly contribute to sustainable solutions for everyday challenges. New Product Sales resulting from these efforts contribute annually to over 30% of global revenues for the supported businesses. Hans is also managing director for fourteen legal entities of IFF in the Netherlands, and recently developed a new research/office facility for IFF in the Leiden Bioscience Park.

Dr. Alejandro Arias Vásquez
Associate Professor on Translational Neurobiology
Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, Radboud UMC
Dr. Alejandro Arias Vásquez is an accomplished researcher and educator in the field of neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly ADHD and ASD. His work focuses on unraveling the intricate interplay between genetics, environmental factors, and the gut microbiome in shaping human behavior and cognitive traits. Dr. Arias Vásquez’s expertise lies in three key domains: Genetic Epidemiology, Gut Microbiota Effects on Neurodevelopment, and High-Order Analysis Methods. His innovative approach integrates cutting-edge genetic techniques with advanced statistical methodologies to identify genetic determinants of neurodevelopmental diseases. His pioneering research on the gut-brain axis sheds light on the previously unexplored links between microbiota variation and neurodevelopmental disorders, offering novel insights into potential therapeutic avenues. He not only conducts groundbreaking research but also dedicates himself to educating and training the next generation of scientists. His commitment to communication, education, and engagement with diverse stakeholders aligns well with the goals of ensuring the translation of scientific discoveries into real-world applications and societal benefits.
