Bas Reichert - CEO

Bas Reichert is our CEO. As CEO he is responsible for everything that enters and leaves the laboratories. Bas focuses on the development of new services and strategies based on market opportunities. He manages the marketing and sales department and maintains contacts with larger customers so that he can keep abreast of their interests and developments.

Bas studied Biology at Leiden University, majoring in Biochemistry. He specialised in molecular genetics.

Erna Barèl - COO

Erna is COO and co-founder of BaseClear. As COO Erna is responsible for the logistic business, personnel matters and general affairs.

Erna studied Biology at Leiden University, majoring in Medical Biology. Together with Bas she founded BaseClear in 1993.

Richard de Winter - Director Quality Solutions

Richard de Winter is director of the Quality Solutions Business Unit, which focuses on microbial QA/QC-services for mainly the pharmaceutical and food market.

Richard studied Biology and Medical Biological Laboratory Science (HLO) at the Holland University of Applied Sciences in Alkmaar, majoring in biochemistry. After graduation, Richard joined Pharming in Leiden, where he worked on the coordination of the cloning and testing of transgenic cows.

Derek Butler - Director BiaNomics 

Derek Butler (PhD) is responsible for the BiaNomics Business Unit. The BiaNomics Businss Unit focuses on developing microbial genomics services to assist customers with their microbiological research and development projects. In addition he works on a number of collaborative research projects with universities and research institutes. The objective of these collaborations is to develop innovative and more efficient DNA-related services.

Derek completed a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at Dublin City University in 1995, specialising in Genetics and Immunology. He continued his studies at University College Cork and in 2001 received his PhD degree for work on the genetic regulation of lactic acid bacteria.

Walter Pirovano - Director Bioinformatics

Walter Pirovano (PhD) is the Director of the Bioinformatics department and has built the strong bioinformatics team, responsible for assisting our customers with downstream data analysis and interpretation.

Walter obtained his Master’s degree in molecular biology at the University of Milan. After this he went to Amsterdam for an exciting Ph.D. project on protein sequence analysis, under the supervision of Prof. Jaap Heringa and Dr. Anton Feenstra.
