BaseClear is a contract laboratory specialised in DNA analysis. For all areas in which DNA plays a key role, BaseClear has been offering services in the form of convenient and high-quality solutions. BaseClear distinguishes itself by having a highly customer orientated approach, working in close collaboration with customers to develop solutions specifically matched to their needs.
BaseClear offers a number of service packages based on the innovative Next Generation sequencing technologies. Our building is located at Leiden Bio Science Park and hosts a continuously growing team of more than 60 employees. With hard work and great enthusiasm, for almost 25 years we have built a large international clientele. BaseClear aims to continuously expand its service package, with a growing role for NGS and bioinformatics services. Management of “big data” and the development of advanced lab support software play a crucial role.
For our growing Bioinformatics department, we are currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the function of:
The candidate, who will report to Director Bioinformatics, will be responsible for the planning and orchestration of the standardised bioinformatic services for (meta)genome and transcriptome sequencing and analysis projects. This includes checking the bioinformatic complexity of projects at a pre-sequencing stage and the assignment of weekly tasks to the members of the bioinformatics team for guaranteed on time delivery. In addition, the candidate will perform the analysis of custom microbial genomics projects where focus will be given on developing these into new commercial services. This latter task will be defined in close collaboration with the R&D team. The candidate will be a point of reference for the bioinformatics team and keep its members up-to-date with the newest developments in the market. He/she will work as part of a highly motivated team of scientists and technicians.
We are looking for:
A highly driven and results-orientated candidate with at least 4 years of bioinformatics work experience in who lives in the Leiden area and wants to work full-time (40 h/week). Excellent planning skills for maintaining a steady production flow, as well as highly developed problem-solving skills in the bioinformatics problem space are must to have, e.g. for optimising existing pipelines and implementing new (academic) software. Excellent knowledge of Python and in-depth knowledge of NGS technologies are essential. Additional experience of microbial genomics, Perl, R, Docker containers, the scrum/agile framework, as well as an understanding of laboratory management and quality systems are of benefit. The candidate should have a commercial attitude supported with perfect communication and presentation skills, using which he/she is able to motivate a group of highly-skilled bioinformaticians.Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics with demonstrable bioinformatics, programming and DNA sequence analysis experience.
