On Thursday, June 8th 2017, the first pole was placed into the ground for the new building of BaseClear. The building, with offices and high-tech laboratories, will become the first building on the Leiden BioSciece Park with a BREEAM excellent sustainability label. BaseClear expects to move mid-2018 to this new location.
“BaseClear offers high quality services, for which our laboratories need to meet the latest requirements. The advantage of designing our own building is that we can model it exactly to our wishes. With this we can offer an even better quality and work more efficiently.”, tells Erna Barèl, CFO of BaseClear. Bas Reichert, CEO of BaseClear, adds: “Also it is essential that we can work in a larger, modern and inspiring environment. There are many opportunities for us, the market for DNA analyses is growing fast. With these new laboratories we can stay upfront in the field.”
With this new building BaseClear can continue the strong growth of the company. Within the last 5 years the number of employees has doubled. The current location was really getting to small. Bas Reichert is proud on this new step: “In 1993 we started with the two of us, and now we have over 60 employees. That we can now build our own laboratories is the reward of our hard work and of our employees in the last 25 years.”
The new building, designed by architect firm Popma & ter Steege, will be the first building in the Leiden BioScience Park with a BREEAM excellent sustainability label. This includes the compact building volume, the connection to heat-cold storage, the economical installation system, LED lighting and 200-pv panels for the generation of energy.
For BaseClear it was obvious to stay in the Leiden BioScience Park. The new building is build next to the Sylvius laboratories of the University of Leiden, on the intersection of the Wassenaarseweg and the Sylviusweg. Erna Barèl explains: “Leiden has a unique business park. It is the largest life sciences knowledge cluster in the Netherlands and many of our customers, partners and other business relationships are just around the corner. This enables us to maintain the strong connections with our network.” Bas Reichert adds: “The strong concentration of research, enterprise, education and high-level care attracts companies, students and scientists from around the world. It is the ideal environment for us to quickly jump into developments from the field. “
