BaseClear updates VITEK MS database

BaseClear has updated the VITEK® MS Knowledge Base (KB) to Version 3.2.0. Now with Brucella, Candida auris and Elizabethkingia anophelis, the VITEK® MS database is consistently expanding to bring new emerging pathogens and clinically relevant species. BaseClear uses the VITEK® MS KB for the MALDI-TOF microbial identification service.

This IVD-CE marked VITEK® MS database expansion also includes new bacteria and fungi focusing on anaerobes, mycoplasma, yeast and molds. The VITEK® MS system KB V3.2.0 enables the identification of 272 new species, of which 217 are bacteria and 55 are fungi, for a total of 1,316 species. The VITEK® MS V3.2.0 IVD CE marked database contains the following new species and enhancements:

  • 217 new bacteria species including 40 anaerobes
  • 55 new fungal species
  • Candida auris and Elizabethkingia anophelis: new emerging pathogens of clinical significance
  • Differentiation within the Acinetobacter baumanii complex: now Acinetobacter baumannii, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Acinetobacter nosocomialis, and Acinetobacter pittii
  • Differentiation between Proteus penneri and Proteus vulgaris
  • Differentiation between Corynebacterium amycolatum and Corynebacterium xerosis
  • Addition of Mycoplasma pneumoniae
