How to analyse a tulip genome in only 4 days

With the latest nanopore technology, the genome of plant and animal species with ‘difficult’ and extremely large DNA can now be analysed quickly.

This weekend NRC has published an article about the accomplishment of Future Genomics Technologies, a collaboration between biotech company BaseClear and Leiden University. Future Genomics has analysed the complete genome of an orange tulip (variety Orange Sherpa) using the latest nanopore sequencing technology. That is a milestone. The tulip has an enormous genome consisting of 35 billion base pairs.
