This year the RAP architecture public’s choice award was awarded to the Nucleus Building, designed by architecture firm Popma & ter Steege. The jury comments on this building: “The architecture has been worked out with great care and with great attention to detail, a very consistent design. Appreciation for the sophisticated design in which a ‘BREAAM excellent’ was achieved by limiting the use of materials.” More than 2.800 people voted for their favorite building in this edition of the Rijnlandse Architectuur Prijs, breaking the record from 2017 (2.600 votes).
The RAP architecture prize is a bi-annual prize that is awarded by the Rijnlands Architecture Platform (RAP). The Nucleus building was one of the nine finalists that have been selected from a longlist of twenty-four newly built or restored buildings within the Leiden region.
The Naturalis Biodiversity Center has won the Rijnlandse Architectuur Jury’s award. The winning architectural firm Neutelings Riedijk received the jury prize from jury chairman Thijs Asselbergs, with great public interest in Scheltema. The jury calls the new Naturalis “speaking architecture” and finds it a striking appearance. It praises the “cathedral atmosphere in the publicly accessible hall” and the use of materials, both inside and outside, with which it “adds a new spatial experience to the city”
