Roel is an accomplished executive with broad experience across many aspects of the life sciences industry. Prior to joining Baseclear, Roel was CEO of Biogazelle, a Belgian CRO specialized in biomarker development, and became executive director genomics after it’s acquisition by the Canadian CRO CellCarta. Further, Roel held the position of senior strategy advisor to the Janssen Human Microbiome Institute and has been actively involved with the establishment and management of several biotech startups in his role as investment manager at DROIA Ventures.
Roel completed his MBA at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics. In addition Roel holds a PhD in molecular biology from Ghent University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human genetics at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York.
