Good bookkeeping is essential to the financial health of any company. What began as a six-month interim assignment for Ruud Overbeek in 2012 has developed into a collaboration spanning over seven years. Due to the significant growth of BaseClear, Ruud has been employed full-time as Financial Manager since 2019. The companies of the Nucleus group, with BaseClear as the largest operating company, are all based in Leiden. The BaseClear Finance department is responsible for the financial administration of the eight BVs within the Nucleus group.
During Ruud’s time at BaseClear, the Finance department has evolved from handling basic bookkeeping, with external accountants managing the financial close, to fully independent monthly reporting and preparation of both separate and consolidated annual accounts. Ruud led the project to implement the necessary software for this transition. His team, initially comprised of administrative employees trained at MBO level, has since advanced by completing the Modern Business Administration (MBA) course. The team is now fully capable of independently managing the various responsibilities outlined in their job profiles. They also support the preparation of monthly reports and year-end activities, adhering to a closing calendar introduced in 2021. Ruud’s role in this team’s development is described as a coaching one.
Before joining BaseClear, Ruud worked at a taxi and coach company in Alphen aan den Rijn, first as an administrator and later as Financial Director. Over the 20 years he spent there, he earned all his professional diplomas. He also taught Accounting and Payroll Administration in adult and vocational education, served as treasurer for a foundation, and owned an administration office in Boskoop.
In his personal life, Ruud enjoys spending time with his family. He takes part in various activities with his wife Thea, to whom he has been married for over thirty years, as well as his daughter Alicia and her partner Jurian. Ruud also enjoys long walks with his dogs, Mowgli and Shanty. In his free time, he keeps fit and serves as a youth referee at Floreant in Boskoop.
