Antimicrobial susceptibility test (MIC-testing)

The MIC, or minimum inhibitory concentration, is the lowest concentration (in μg/mL) of an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of a given strain of bacteria. BaseClear offers MIC-testing as part of the complete package for strain safety assessment for regulatory approval, as well as a high-throughput MIC-screening service for compound libraries for academic and industrial clients.

Microorganisms used intentionally in the food chain such as microbial feed additives, should not add to the pool of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes already present in the gut microbial population, or otherwise increase the spread of AMR (EFSA FEEDAP Panel, 2018). For this reason phenotypic testing of antimicrobial susceptibility should be made using internationally recognised and standardised methods.
